Senator Etuk Drag Gov. Akpabio’s Aid To Court Over Libelous Publication

Indications have emerged that the discord between Senator Aloysius Apkan of akwa ibom north west constituency representative and his estrange political associates, gov. Godswill Akpabio, has further depend. The latest in the ongoing face-off of is the slamming of the five hundred million naira (500,000,000,00) legal suit on media consultants to gov. Akpabio, Mr. Emmanuel Nicholas, popularly known as white bom-bom. Senator Etuk’s arttoney, James Essien & Co, are arguing that the sreaming headline, “Aloysuis Etuk Descending to Political Abyss” by Emmanuel Nicholas published on a number of local tabloids in akwa ibom; was libelous and defamatory, demanding retraction of the said story and unreserved apology to the distinguished senator. According to the applicant, “upon closer security, we have come to the inescapable conclusion that you and the publisher of this article are more determined to put tar on the image of our client by accusing him of murder of Ukpabio’s sons who were reportedly killed last year in Mbente village on Nkari clan in Ini L.G.A; it is preposterous and reckless to allege that our client have been struggle for inter-ministerial contracts in his constituency and the same has resulted in deaths especially of the ukpabio brothers. It is also uncharitable, inconceivable and utterly untrue that our client deployed killer squad to murder the ukpabio brothers or any body else for that matter over payment off compensation for the nkari dan project or for any other matter,” the arttoney said. Jame Essien & Co further held that the writer of that of that story wrote the story about senator etuk with intent to hurt and tarnish his reputation. The publication has cause immeasurable embarrassment to the reputation of our client in the eyes of his constituents, colleagues at the national assembly, government and its agencies and the international community.” The firm asked Mr. Emmanuel to immediately write a latter of apology to senator Etuk and issue a retraction of the story in that same paper. The suit further read in part, “the lebelous word in their ordinary meaning translate to that our client (senator etuk) is a common criminal and a murder and is an expert at killing and procurement of others to kill.” That our client has no business whatever setting as the senator of the federal republic of Nigeria and enjoying the company of other senators or other responsible members of the society.” That our client ought to be arrested, interrogated, tried and jailed and condemned to prison as a serial murderer.” On his part Mr. Nicholas, the defendant said he is yet to receive a court order requesting his presence to clear his name of th charges.
