The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has emerged as the new Emir of Kano.
Sanusi, the grandson of the 11th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was turbaned the Giwar Dan Majen Kano in 2013.
The selection of the new emir was believed to have been concluded by the Kano Emirate Council early Sunday. The council was believed to have recommended the former CBN governor and the first son of the late Emir of Kano, Ciroman Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, who was considered the more popular choice.
But the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is believed to have succumbed to pressure that was brought to bear by chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had converged on Kano since Friday.
